Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community,                                          October 23nd, 2020

Thank you for your continued patience and stamina as we navigate these difficult times.  We believe that in person learning is the absolute best plan for our students and we are working hard to achieve that in a safe way.

We are excited to resume in-person learning at Northview on Monday, October 26th.  Thank you for your patience and understanding the past couple of weeks with virtual learning.  We were extremely proud of the students’ participation and engagement with the material.  Remember, all students Kindergarten through 4th grade will be bringing home Chromebooks each day so it's important the Chromebooks are charged every night. The chargers should remain at home for the time being.

As a reminder, on Monday and Tuesday the Middle School will have cohort 1 in person and cohort 2 will be virtual.  On Wednesday all students will be virtual.  On Thursday and Friday, cohort 2 will be in person and cohort one will be virtual.

At the high school, Wednesday October 28th will be another flex day for students and teachers.   Some students will be requested to attend classes either in-person or virtually to get caught up with course work or to work in a classroom or laboratory setting.   Students requested to attend are required to do so or they will be marked absent.

On Monday night the board approved the tax levy and budget for the 2020-21 school year. The total tax levy approved was $4,697,191. Of this amount, $3,212,691 will be used to fund general operations of the district and the remaining $1,484,500 will be used to pay debt. We are pleased to see no increase in the mill rate ($8.86) from last year. We are also able to pay down our debt faster than required.  The additional debt payment will save the district future interest costs and allow for more financial flexibility in upcoming years. Paying additional debt while keeping the tax rate flat is no small task. It is a testament to the fiscal responsibility of the school board, district, and community.

We will continue to offer free grab and go bag lunches to all students.  Lunches can be picked up between 11am and 1 pm in the High School commons.

If you are having any computer issues, please reach out to your building principals.

We are all in this together and are here to help.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Chris Peterson, Scott Fritz, Heather Zizis, Jason Cole, Josh Swanson, and Tracy Bandt
