Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community,                                                                September 18th,  2020

We made it through our first 5 day week!  Thank you so much for your continued cooperation and efforts to keep our buildings open.  I continue to see students happy to be back in school with their friends and teachers.  Everyone seems to be adjusting to wearing masks throughout the day.  Please encourage your child to wear his or her mask.  I am incredibly proud of the efforts everyone is making to stay open.

There is no doubt that the new protocols and procedures can be difficult.  I also realize the challenges associated with having a child need to stay home or be quarantined.  Tracking and monitoring of potential cases has become a daily issue for staff and we have to remain vigilant on keeping everyone safe.  This will be the key to staying open.  Thank you so much for your support!

Remember to review the pre-school screener checklist before sending your child to school.  You can find the screener on our website under COVID-19 Resources.  This screener will help you determine if you should keep your child home on any given day.  If your child has excluded from school due to COVID symptoms or testing, you must provide documentation of a negative COVID test or a note from the doctor to return to school.  Upon their return, please have the student stop in the office and provide this documentation BEFORE going to any of their classes.   If you choose not to get a test or see your doctor your child will have to be out for 10 days from symptom onset.  This will assist the school in ensuring that we are doing our best to keep everyone healthy and safe.

I also want to remind all of you that we are providing FREE MEALS to all HGSD children through December 31st 2020 or until the funds (federal funds, not district funds) run out.  As a parent or guardian, what do I have to do?  You do not have to do anything.  Lunch transactions will be recorded however your meal accounts will not be charged.

Just a reminder that there is no school on September 25th.   Parent Teacher Conferences will occur in October for the Middle School and High School.   Please look for information that will be sent home shortly from each building regarding their parent teacher conference procedures.

Thank you all for working together to reopen schools. Our goal has always been to keep our students and staff safe as we begin the 2020-21 school year.   Your continued support and help is making this possible.  Thank you.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Chris Peterson, Scott Fritz, Heather Zizis, Jason Cole, and Tracy Bandt
