On Saturday October 14, 2017 seven high school students interested in learning about careers and professional training in the visual arts attended National Portfolio Day at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) with Ms. Cole. Once a year representatives from nationally and internationally accredited art schools set up booths at MIAD and review high school student portfolios.
This day provides students with the opportunity to bring examples of their artwork to MIAD and pick and choose which school booths they wish to visit. The school representatives assess the student’s art work noting strengths and areas that need improvement. Students are able to ask questions and get information about majors, financial aid, and future job placement.
After the portfolio assessment, the students had some time to explore the historic Third Ward district in Milwaukee which is becoming known as an urban creative community.
