Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community,                                                                               July 24th, 2020

I hope all of you are doing well, staying safe, and enjoying the beautiful summer weather.

Our Reopening Committee has been working almost daily on plans to reopen our schools.  The Board will be approving the final plan next week and we will release it to everyone by July 31st. We are working off the assumption that we will be open 5 days a week and run normal start times.   The plan will be a fluid document as things will likely change over the coming months.

A modified graduation ceremony will be held on August 2nd at the football stadium.  The ceremony will focus on getting the graduates together one last time, recognizing their achievements and delivering their diplomas.  Due to the current pandemic, crowd size has been limited to 4 people per graduate.  If inclement weather occurs the event will be cancelled

Thursday morning the WIAA Board of Control approved a plan for the 2020-21 school year to start the Fall Sports season.  Girls tennis and boys and girls cross country will start August 17th and football, boys soccer and girls volleyball will start September 7th.  The athletic department is waiting for further guidance from the WIAA on this new fall schedule and will meet to discuss the start of our fall sports season.  Information will be shared with parents and athletes as soon as it is available.

As many of you know, in previous years we contracted out our foodservice to Aramark.  We have decided to move in a different direction and bring foodservice back in house.  I am pleased to announce that we have hired Rebecca Legler as our new FS Director.  Rebecca comes to the school district with several years of experience in child nutrition.  Most recently she had worked for the Head Start program.  She will be sending out a survey to see what families are looking for as to the foodservice area.  I encourage you to fill out the short survey so she can prepare for the new school year.

We understand that the mental health of our students, families, and staff is of paramount importance.  The pupil services staff, district-wide, has been meeting and working on a plan to address the mental wellness of our students.  As a reminder, if you need support or have questions, please contact Amanda O’Connell, our elementary school counselor at Northview (aoconnell@hgsd.k12.wi.us), Jessica Luecke, our middle school counselor (jluecke@hgsd.k12.wi.us), Krista Neave, our new school counselor at the high school (kneave@hgsd.k12.wi.us), David Hickmann, district school social worker (dhickmann@hgsd.k12.wi.us), or Tracy Bandt, district school psychologist (tracy.bandt@hgsd.k12.wi.us).

The registration window will be open for parents July 27th through August 3rd.  All registration will be done online through Skyward.  Please take some time to complete the information so we can plan accordingly for the reopening of schools.  Also, new this year, families will need to schedule an appointment for student pictures.  A link to sign up is available on the 2020-2021 Registration page on our website.  Appointments are available on Wednesday, July 29th and Monday, August 3rd.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help or support at any time.  We are all in this together and are here to help.

Sincerely,

Chris Peterson, Scott Fritz, Heather Zizis, Jason Cole, and Tracy Bandt
