Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community,                                                                                June 26th, 2020

I hope all of you are enjoying summer break and are safe and healthy.

On Wednesday, June 25th, I sent out a separate parent update regarding the reopening process.  To summarize that letter, we have put together two committees to develop our plans.  The first committee is for the reopening of our facilities this summer.

The second committee is tasked with developing the reopening of school plan for the fall.  That committee is comprised of Board members, administrators, teachers, maintenance staff, and parents.  Our first meeting will be held on June 30th.   We have also sent all families a brief survey to collect feedback on your concerns and suggestions to help guide our work.

The anchoring goal is to open schools safely.  This will mean some changes and recommendations while trying to maintain things as normal as possible.  We are committed to supporting families in the process and thankful for your patience.  I will continue to post updates and information on our website, as well as weekly update letters throughout the summer.

The HGHS athletic department met with coaches on Thursday to discuss the summer reopening protocols for our voluntary summer athletic contact.  HGHS is following WIAA and local health department guidelines to design our reopening summer athletic contact protocols.   The HGHS athletic department will share these protocols for our summer fitness classes and summer contact for our sports teams with both our parents and students next week.   Due to the 4th of July holiday, our reopening for summer athletic contact will begin on July 6th.    It will be important that all athletes follow the prescribed protocols to participate in our voluntary summer athletic opportunities.

This is a friendly reminder that we are offering Virtual Summer School from July 27th-August 7th. You can access the course descriptions and online registration by going to any of the school websites, clicking menu, Virtual Summer School 2020, and selecting the "2020 Virtual Summer School Information" page.  On this document you will find a link to the course descriptions as well as a link to the registration form. There are many great classes being offered! Please take some time to consider taking advantage of this great opportunity. Online registration will close on Friday, July 3rd.

Students who were recommended for previous summer school classes are encouraged to sign up for virtual summer school. Classes to consider are: Accelerated Learning for Mastery (grade 9), Book Club Camp (grades 2-5), Cooking and Creating with Book (grades K-2), Jumpstart Your School Year! (grades 3- 4), Magnificent Math (grades 3-4), Math Matters (grades 5-8), Mathnasium (grades K-2) and The Structure of Algebra (grades 9-12).

Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help or support at any time.  We are all in this together and are here to help.

Sincerely,

Chris Peterson, Scott Fritz, Heather Zizis, Jason Cole, and Tracy Bandt
