Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community,                                                    May 8th, 2020

As we conclude our eighth week of closure I sincerely thank you for all that you continue to do.  Thank you for supporting your child, our teachers, and our community as we tackle this challenging time.  We miss seeing all of you.  Please continue to do the best you can.  I want to share a few thoughts from each of our principals:

We'd like to thank all of the work parents have done to help support their kids during this time.

  • Mr. Cole:  During pick-up please fight the urge to stay and talk with the teachers. We all want to embrace the opportunity to talk and stay connected, however, it is extremely vital for the safety and health of everyone that we move quickly through the process.   Staff will hand you the packet of information through the passenger side window.  We understand that you may need to have your child(ren) with you at the time of pick-up.  Please remind your students that their teacher won’t be able to high five or hug them as well as not have much time to talk.  This is extremely difficult for all of us, but we need to fight the urge to socialize.
  • Mrs. Zizis:  As students continue to learn independence at the middle school level, parents please continue to encourage your students to communicate to their teachers. If you as parents have any questions or concerns let us know how we can support your child and you!
  • Mrs. Bandt:  Please know that we are mindful of the impact a situation like this can have on our students' mental wellness.  Remember that our pupil service staff continues to be available to meet student needs.  Please contact Tracy Bandt, school psychologist (tracy.bandt@hgsd.k12.wi.us); Amanda O'Connell, elementary school counselor (aoconnell@hgsd.k12.wi.us); Jessica Luecke, middle school counselor (jluecke@hgsd.k12.wi.us); Dale Nennig, high school counselor (dnennig@hgsd.k12.wi.us); or David Hickmann, school social worker (dhickmann@hgsd.k12.wi.us).
  • Mr. Fritz: Please continue to work with your high school student and their instructor to complete any incomplete grades from term 3 so the student can be given credit for that course.

As of today, Summer School in June is officially cancelled.  We are working through some opportunities for July and August Summer School.  Our ultimate goal is to have students physically attend some type of in per person classes.  However, there is a lot of uncertainty if that will be possible following the rules of the Badger Bounce Plan and meeting the requirements of reopening.

Regarding graduation, Mr. Fritz is working with our seniors and their families to plan graduation.  We are hopeful that we will be able to have some form of in person ceremony on either July 12 or August 2nd.   However, the high school will begin working on a virtual component to either supplement the in person ceremony or be used if an in person ceremony is not allowed.  Like Summer School, we are waiting for guidance on social gatherings.   Honoring our graduates and their accomplishments is a top priority for us.  We will do whatever we can to make it a celebration.

Lastly, don’t forget that we continue to serve free grab and go lunches for our children under 18.

We sincerely miss seeing your children and our staff.  Don’t hesitate to reach out for help or support at any time.

Sincerely,

Chris Peterson, Scott Fritz, Heather Zizis, Jason Cole, and Tracy Bandt
