Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community,                                                                                July 3rd, 2020

Happy Fourth of July!  I hope all of you find a way to enjoy the holiday safely.  This will certainly be a different holiday than years past.

We have already begun the work on our plan to reopen our schools in the fall.  Our committee met on Tuesday June 30th.  We will be meeting multiple times over the coming weeks to develop our reopen procedures.  Our goal is to have a final plan to you by July 31st, provided the state doesn’t change anything that might delay that.

In our plan we specifically will be addressing various areas such as Bussing, Cleaning, Co-curriculars, Common Areas/Lunchroom, Food Service, High School, Mental Wellness, Middle School, Northview, Office Visits/Building Visitation, Parent/Staff/Community Education, Screening, Specialists (ex. PE, Art, Music), Special Education, and Virtual Learning.  As I previously mentioned, we will be open unless an order from the state prevents that.  That being said, we do have to have procedures in place to ensure the safety of all students and staff.  We are following the guidance provided to use by the Department of Public Instruction, Sheboygan County Health Department, the American Association of Pediatrics, and the survey data we have collected.  Thank you to all of you who completed the survey on reopening.

The HGHS athletic department has developed summer reopening protocols for our voluntary summer athletic contact. HGHS is following WIAA and local health department guidelines to design our reopening summer athletic contact protocols.  Please understand these protocols will be adjusted as information becomes available to us.   The HGHS athletic department will share a letter this week with parents and students regarding these general protocols.   Each coach or fitness instructor will share more specific protocols with their athletes as it relates to each sport as they plan and organize their voluntary athletic contact.  Due to the 4th of July holiday, our reopening for summer athletic contact will begin on July 6th. It will be important that all athletes follow the prescribed protocols to participate in our voluntary summer athletic opportunities. Please note that each week we will evaluate health department information and protocols will be relaxed as soon as we are able to so in a responsible and safe manner.

August 2nd remains the date for a potential formal graduation ceremony. We are working with local health officials to determine the possibilities available for a potential in person graduation.   As soon as information is available we will share it with parents and students.

This is a friendly reminder that we are offering Virtual Summer School from July 27th-August 7th. You can access the course descriptions and online registration by going to any of the school websites, clicking menu, Virtual Summer School 2020, and selecting the "2020 Virtual Summer School Information" page.  We strongly encourage students to stay engaged over the summer months.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help or support at any time.  We are all in this together and are here to help.

Sincerely,

Chris Peterson, Scott Fritz, Heather Zizis, Jason Cole, and Tracy Bandt
